OK and now on a lighter note , time for bed

by miramaze @ Sunday, 01. Apr, 2007 - 23:34:19

It's not all doom and gloom though. The next film was a funny girl meets boy one so we are glad that they all lived happily ever after. Now its time for shut-eyes.

As I type this, MrsF , Mr S and our Old Nick will be travelling home on the great silver bird , braving airports and duty free ( is there duty free when you've been in Teneriffe ? ) and landing sound and safe ah well .. they'll sort it out. We look forward to pics , uncensored of course ;) we are are all consenting adults here *chuckles* .. and they danced by the light of the moon the moon the moon and they danced by the light of the ´moon ( full moon tomorrow )

toodle loo all *waves * night night kisses and hugs xxxx

Six feet under

by miramaze @ Sunday, 01. Apr, 2007 - 22:27:40

Watching six feet under has left me in a very strange mood. What an extra - ordinary dysfunctional family.

"Feet Under continues to focus on the cathartic journey of the extended Fisher family, whose personal trials and tribulations are played out against the solemn backdrop of an independent funeral home in LA. "

It's like several therapy sessions wrapped into one. Surreal.

Sesame noodles recipe from a friend

by miramaze @ Sunday, 01. Apr, 2007 - 21:40:58

Takeout-Style Sesame Noodles

1 pound Chinese egg noodles (1/8,-inch-thick) , frozen or (preferably) fresh, available in Asian markets

2 tablespoons sesame oil, plus a splash

3½ tablespoons soy sauce

2 tablespoons Chinese rice vinegar

2 tablespoons Chinese sesame paste

1 tablespoon smooth peanut butter

1 tablespoon sugar

1 tablespoon finely grated ginger

2 teaspoons minced garlic

2 teaspoons chili-garlic paste, or to taste

Half a cucumber, peeled, seeded, and cut into 1/8,-by- 1/8,-by-2-inch sticks

¼ cup chopped roasted peanuts.

1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add noodles and cook until barely tender, about 5 minutes; they should retain a hint of chewiness. Drain, rinse with cold water, drain again and toss with a splash of sesame oil.

2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the remaining 2 tablespoons sesame oil, the soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame paste, peanut butter, sugar, ginger, garlic and chili-garlic paste.

3. Pour the sauce over the noodles and toss. Transfer to a serving bowl, and garnish with cucumber and peanuts. Serves 4. Adapted from Martin Yan, Marian Burros, and memory.

Notes

1. The “Chinese sesame paste,” above, is made of toasted sesame seeds; it is not the same as tahini, the Middle Eastern paste made of plain, untoasted sesame. But you could use tahini in a pinch. You need only add a little toasted sesame oil to compensate for flavor, and perhaps some peanut butter to keep the sauce emulsified.

2. On which subject, the whole point of cold sesame noodles is what’s called in the food trade its “mouth feel,” the velvety smooth feeling of perfectly combined ingredients. That’s why you find so much peanut butter in preparations of cold sesame noodles. Peanut butter emulsifies better than sesame paste.

3. Hey, where are the Sichuan peppercorns? Sichuan food depends on their tingly numbing power! Perhaps, but the little fruits were banned from the United States from 1968 until 2005 by the Food and Drug Administration because they were feared to carry citrus canker, a bacterial disease. And while you could always find them in Chinatowns somewhere (sitting, dry and baleful, in a pile), there are few in the true cult of sesame noodles who use them in their recipes. By all means, add some if you like: toast a tablespoon’s worth in a dry pan, crush lightly and whisk the resulting mess into your sauce.

The wine I'm drinking is called Pater Sangiovese, from Tuscany.... Toscana and is not nearly as posh as the one om the pic BUT it tastes divine ,

young, fruity .. a slightly woody taste , cherries, spices , a nint of licorice and chocolate .. mmmmmmmm

I can see the Tuscany landscape and vineyards in my minds eye .. oh and a longing to go to Italy , for real !

sunshine

'ello sunshine :D Sunny days , sunshine make all the difference to my moods. Indoors or outdoors, life seems happier and lighter.

A tiny voice inside me says " Oh it's such a nice day , you should be outside " and my first response is " shut he the fxxx up leave me alone " and then I giggle to myself when I realise I can do exactly as I please ...and I answer " is it so ? " and .. it feels SOOOOOOOO good to do exactly as I please. The rebel in me is smiling.

loveblogthings

You are willing to go pretty far for love - but not far enough to compromise your core values.
Love is a priority for you, and you'll go further than most people to hold on to someone you love.
But killing for love? Or even taking a bullet? Probably out of the question.
No matter what, you love yourself the most!

Raising your sights

einstein

"A human being is a part of the whole, called by
us ‘Universe,’ a part limited in time and space.
( she ) He experiences ( herself ) himself, ( her ) his thoughts and feelings
as something separated from the rest - a kind of
optical delusion of ( her ) his consciousness. This
delusion is akind of prison for us, restricting us to
our personal desires and to affection for a few
persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free
ourselves from this prison by widening our circle
of compassion to embrace all living creatures and
the whole of nature in its beauty. Nobody is able
to achieve this completely, but the striving for
such achievement is in itself a part of the
liberation and a foundation for inner security."

-- Albert Einstein

I'm so touched by this picture of Einstein because it reminds me of my grandfather. Blessed be.

"It's always wise to raise questions about the
most obvious and simple assumptions."

-- C. West Churchman

"To assume is to be deceived."

-- Yiddish proverb

I do believe that to question is so very important. It is said , Never ASSUME , for when you do , you make an ASS of U and ME .

There is wisdom in questioning that too, no doubt.

Happy Sunday , everyone !:DD

The good fairy stopped by

by miramaze @ Sunday, 01. Apr, 2007 - 00:50:07

An original idea by lyndlj of Blogland

OK, the good and magical fairy Fantasmagoria has granted you three wishes. But she is a feisty good fairy (as you would be with a name like that)

So there are conditions

Your first wish has to be about a person/people not related to you

Your second wish has to be about a place ... that you might like to live in or visit

Your third wish can be about anything not related to the first two wishes but is not allowed to be more wishes And your wishes have to be personal to you.

castle

I'd like to live in a huge castle overlooking the sea in a warm country together with my lover(s) and friends- a sort of community of artists, scientists, writers, musicians, bloggers and interesting people like that. We each have our self contained little flats within the castle but share the grounds and facilities of the castle.

I wish for a beautiful lions claw bath tub

A call from a long lost friend

by miramaze @ Sunday, 01. Apr, 2007 - 00:18:02
pigeons They've been cooing and oooing and making lovey dovey noises all morning - the pigeons, that is . I wonder if their nest is near my balcony. I went out and met two of them on perched on my balcony this afternoon. They did not fly away but stood there quite happily watching the goings on down below. WHat is the difference between pigeons and doves anyway ? I mentioned the noises to V who seemed to think it was an omen that somone was about to die. A few hours later , a two hour long telephone conversation about death, grieving and details of illness and goodbyes. CR simply needed to talk. Both his mother and his partner of 14 years had died. His girlfriend had passed away suddenly from pneumonia that turned nasty and incurable while visiting U.K. two years ago . Now almost the same thing with his mother. Both mother and girlfriend had passed away after dramatic stays in hospital under similar circumstances during the Christmas holidays. I'm deeply moved by CR's farewell to his mother; rose petals strewn over her body , very expensive perfume dabbed gently on her wrists and then a farewell kiss. I knew CR well about 15 years ago while he was living in Stockholm but when he moved to Copenhagen we lost touch.Cr is very much old school.Prefers snail mail, cards and calls. I remember phases of phone calls at all hours of the night, especially after his bouts of drinking copious amounts of wine . Then the heart attack scare came and both smoking and drinking had to stop. Now he's a man who seeks solitude and retreat, prefering the tranquility of the grave yard, his booksand music. The two roses planted on G's grave were growing nicely he said. May both girlfriend and mother rest in peace and blessed be, rosebush
