About Pelargoniums -( for Mrs F )

by miramaze @ Sunday, 30. Sep, 2007 - 21:28:34

I was telling Mrs F that I'd brought my pelargoniums in fronm the balcony as nights are getting colder now.

Wish I knew how to take cuttings. It's supposed to be dead easy, yet I've never succeeded :( either taking cuttings OR getting them to survive the winter indoors. I think it is too warm indoors and not enough light.

http://www.mjausson.com/2002/img/walk26Aug02/21nwc_pelargonium.jpg

Pelargonium is a genus of flowering plants which includes about 200 species of perennial, succulent, and shrub plants, commonly known as geraniums. Confusingly, Geranium is the correct botanical name of the separate genus which contains the related Cranesbills. Both genera are in the Family Geraniaceae. Linnaeus originally included all the species in one genus, Geranium, but they were later separated into two genera by Charles L’Héritier in 1789. Gardeners sometimes refer to the members of Genus Pelargonium as "pelargoniums" in order to avoid the confusion, but the older common name "geranium" is still in regular use.

Love over fear in Burma

Love over fear in Burma

Vishvapani, a member of the Western Buddhist
Order in the UK, argues that the monks' protests in
Burma show the principle of loving kindness in
action
, in this think-piece broadcast by BBC Radio
4's Today programme.

I spent last week on retreat, practising a
traditional Buddhist meditation called the development
of loving kindness
.

Its aim is to foster intense friendliness for all
beings, starting with oneself, then including a
friend or teacher, someone for whom your feelings
are neutral, an enemy and then everyone.

Doing this again and again and especially
focussing in a kindly way on people to whom you feel
hostile, stirs memories, regrets and resentments -
and that has a transforming, purifying effect.

" You feel their weakness: the vulnerability of
flesh when faced with batons, tear gas and guns "

Vishvapani
It shakes up the whole of your emotional life and
creates a space in which loving kindness can
emerge.
I returned this week to the juddering television
images of cinnamon-robed monks thronging Rangoon
and Mandalay, and among their slogans I caught
snatches of the same ancient verses by the Buddha
that I'd been studying:

" May all beings, weak or strong, large or small,
seen or unseen, near or far, all be happy at
heart. "

But despite the monks' inspiring courage, I've
shared the foreboding and then the anguish as
Burmese troops have confronted them.
You feel their weakness: the vulnerability of
flesh when faced with batons, tear gas and guns; the
fragility of peace when confronted by power.

Reverence
The violence stirs memories of the massacres of
Buddhist monks in Cambodia, Tibet and many other
countries.
The monks are honouring the Buddha's words,
teaching that loving kindness is also a call to
action.

It's no surprise that for many years Burmese
monks have stayed in their monasteries, cultivating
inner virtues - and even now most do the same.
Throughout Buddhist history monks, have often
sheltered behind ruling elites, sometimes tolerating
dictators like the Burmese junta, in return for
the social stability that enables them to
continue their practice.
But a point comes when inner sensibilities demand
to be expressed in action, and the monks are
showing that they possess an alternative kind of
power.
Because the Burmese revere the monks, the
generals first felt constrained to respect them, and
that reverence is prompted by the virtues the monks
display.

Loving kindness doesn't mean you never get angry,
but understanding how anger springs up when you
feel threatened loosens its grip - that brings
strength. It's not power that corrupts, wrote Aung
San Suu Kyi, it's fear.

Whatever the outcome of the monks' revolt, their
courage in stepping outside the monasteries to
stand by ordinary people is a victory in itself.

The monks are honouring the Buddha's words,
teaching that loving kindness is also a call to
action. Just as a mother would risk her life for her
child, her only child, so let one cultivate
boundless love towards all beings.

Day website

Sunday morning and the importance of fairy tales

by miramaze @ Sunday, 30. Sep, 2007 - 15:01:54

A really good lie in today. Must have been around noon when I finally got up and called Johanna, Profd's g/f to wish her Happy Birthday. She'd started the day with a lie in too and a doughnut birthday cake with candles ...awwwww...:-)

Switched computer on and got stuck at the www.lightworker.com. who have broadcasts once a month and they can be seen on You Tube videos. I have Isha Lerner's Inner Child Cards but have never really heard her speak about her cards, the Tarot and the messages of fairy tales. Enchanting video.

Isha Lerner is the co-author of the best selling deck of Inner Child Cards. Four decks including her passion the Power of Flower cards,In this video Isha speaksabout “Power Mapping”, a way to see your life path, and about the flower essences that her company makes.

You can also “Pick a Card” for inspiration at the lightworker site.

Adam's apples

by miramaze @ Sunday, 30. Sep, 2007 - 01:18:02

Was a Lena's and Suzanne came over with the strangest Danish DVD -" ADAM'S APPLES ". Danish sounds weird to start with and the film had Swedish subtitles which meant I really had to pay attention. Miss a line of text and you miss the point.

Anyway , this was after a delicious brocolli blue cheese quiche and salad a bottle of Italian red

http://fest06.sffs.org/i/stills/main/adams_apples.jpg

http://fest06.sffs.org/films/film_details.php

" Fresh from prison, middle-aged neo-Nazi atheist Adam (Ulrich Thomsen) is sent to live in a country church for a stint of community service. Ivan (Mads Mikkelsen), the priest charged with his reform, maintains a delusional optimism as a defense against darker truths in his past and all around him.

(To Adam: “It says here you are evil. It's crude to write that on a person's C.V.”)

Asked to set a goal for his stay, Adam nonchalantly sets the bar pretty low: he'll bake an apple cake. But when the church's beloved lone apple tree is beset, in short order, by crows, worms and lightning, and fallen bibles keep opening to “The Book of Job,” it's clear that the thunderclouds above the parish have blown in straight from the Old Testament, and a test of faith is at hand.

The pitchest of black comedies, Anders Thomas Jensen's wickedly funny film reverberates with profane dialogue, appalling behavior and strategic use of the Bee Gees, as Adam only somewhat maliciously sets out to dismantle Ivan's sunny armor. But while Ivan, who bleeds from the ears when he's forced to confront upsetting realities, seems blind to how little reformed are the other wayward souls in his care (an obese alcoholic former tennis star/rapist and a violent gas station robber), Adam underestimates how much they depend on the priest's Pollyannaish perspective. Assuredly filmed in frosty blues and suitably stormy weather, Adam's Apples is a sly religious parable by a writer/director with a bracing talent for dark, astringent humor.

—Steve Mockus "

Saw the moon on my way home and she was looking good. I'm glad Lena's is only a 10 minute bus ride from me. Sort of spoils the evening when it takes a long time to get home,

Off to bed now . HOw's your weekend unfolding ??

Peace zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Forgot to mention .

Suzanne's soul mate of 27 years ,Martin died earlier this year and Suzanne had been sent this DVD by a friend and psychic who insisted that they watch it without giving a reason why. They had never got round to it- but we did finally , tonight .

One misty cold and damp Saturday in autumn

by miramaze @ Saturday, 29. Sep, 2007 - 14:50:20

The church bells woke me up at 11 a.m, as * yawn and stretch *
Wedding? Concert? Service ? Who knows.

It's "All Angels Day " today I think. St Micheal, or Michaelmas this weekend.

http://www.ronnastar.com/images/7raysH270.jpg

It was nearly 4 a.m. when my two young guests left, Susanna and Carl - the couple I met at Paulo's booksigning. Lovely people - so much to talk about and share- one of those evenings when times stands still.

Susanna doesn't drink but Carl and I shared a bottle of Italian red with our tortellini in creamy chantarelle mushroom sauce , rocket carrot and and pinenut salad , ginger and chocolate truffle cake for dessert.

Must have been around 9 pm Susanna admitted to feeling tired after a very long week ; and an hour or so later thought she was 'coming down with something ' and 'a little shivery' So she was wrapped up in a woollen blanket and placed on the sofa with a big cup of sage tea. An hour after that she had visible perked up , accepted more sage tea energy returning ten fold !!!

I felt like a teenager again remembering the all night parties we used to have. Nowadays my older guests leave around midnight. It was really fun to talk well into the night.

So .. Saturday continues to unfold .
Wonder what is going on in Blogland today ... must have a nosey around

My dear friend and soul sister Gunilla is in agony , diagnosed as having sciatica. She's been given morphine and other meds, but they are not doing much.
While searching for info I found alternative treatment for sciatica that suggested laughter therapy !

Please support our brave friends in Burma

by miramaze @ Thursday, 27. Sep, 2007 - 11:48:27

Hello, I thought you should know about this:

Burma is ruled by one of the most brutal military dictatorships in the world. For decades the Burmese regime has fought off pressure--imprisoning elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi and democracy activists, wiping out thousands of villages, imposing forced labour, creating refugees-

But last Tuesday Buddhist monks and nuns, revered in Burma, began marching and chanting prayers. The protests spread as hundreds of thousands of ordinary people and public figures joined in, finding the hope they’d lost. Now they’re facing crackdown – so please, show your solidarity to this movement towards reconciliation and democracy and sign the emergency petition supporting the Burmese people -- it'll be delivered to United Nations Security Council members and international media all week:

http://www.avaaz.org/en/stand_with_burma/tf.php?CLICK_TF_TRACK

In the past, Burma's military rulers have massacred the demonstrators and crushed democracy. The world must stand with the Burmese people at this time, to show the military rulers that the world will not tolerate repression and violence.

Right now, global leaders are gathering in New York for the annual United Nations summit. In speeches, press interviews but also in real actions, we need them to show Burma's military junta that the global community is willing to act in solidarity with the protesters.

Show your solidarity to this movement for peace and democracy and sign the emergency petition supporting the Burmese people. It'll be delivered to UN Security Council members and the UN press corps all week:

Thank you for your help!

Quiet friend who has come so far ( Rilke )

Sonnets to Orpheus, Part Two, XXIX

Quiet friend who has come so far,
feel how your breathing makes more space around you.
Let this darkness be a bell tower
and you the bell. As you ring,

what batters you becomes your strength.
Move back and forth into the change.
What is it like, such intensity of pain?
If the drink is bitter, turn yourself to wine.

In this uncontainable night,
be the mystery at the crossroads of your senses,
the meaning discovered there.

And if the world has ceased to hear you,
say to the silent earth: I flow.
To the rushing water, speak: I am.

Left home in a daze

by miramaze @ Tuesday, 25. Sep, 2007 - 17:40:18

Left home in a bit of a daze this morning - as is my wont.
I'd not gone far when I was stopped by two men.
One was holding a video camera and the other a microphone .

" what do you think about what's happening in Sundby berg * says microphone man.

" what do you mean what's happening ?
I don't know what's happening " says I , totally taken aback.

It's not everyday I get stopped like this .

" we're from.... ( sounds like ABC news) Can't we film you answering a few questions ... go on ... it will be fun .."

( fun for whom , thinks I as I imagine myself on TV making a total spectacle of myself lol )

" Nah .. not today .. ask me again when I am fully present "

So I walk on
*shit* I think to myself
Missed opportunity
I could have ranted on about the huge fare increases in monthly travel card ..

and ......* thinks*

What would you say into the microphone ?
What would you talk about, given the chance of free publicity ?

I'm gong to think about this for the next time I am asked.
There will be a next time lol I am sure and I will be prepared  ;)

Despicable,
Dishgraceful.

SL , are planning to increase the cost of our monthly travel card by SEK 70 !!! ( 7 euros more a month )

I can remember when the card cost just 70 kronor !

What are they thinking ?
Is this their contribution to global warming ?

IMHO public transport should be FREE.

Jerusalem , falafel

by miramaze @ Monday, 24. Sep, 2007 - 18:39:55

Stopped at Jerusalem on Götgatan for falafel, salad, and veggies stuffed into pita bread with 3 kinds of sauces. Very messy and delicious . Just the thing after being "shrunk". Only 25 kronor too ( About 2:50 Euros )

Interesting for people watching too.

One of those express biker delivery people also stopped by while I was there, ever so slim and trim in a skin tight suit and shoes must have been studded because they made clomping sounds as he walked.

Suddenly all sorts of questions whizzed through my mind.

What makes a person choose to do this for a living , dodging traffic , come rain and shine throughout the year ?

How much must they have to eat to keep their energy levels up ?

What if they have an off day , do they still get on their bike ?

It's practically imossible for me to imagine loving that kind of physical activity.

Insights today :

I am clearing things on a deep soul level
Apart from being burnt at the stake for being a witch ( which I already know  ) and being punished for speaking my truth in past lifetimes I've apparently also been an invalid and bedridden. U-(

These " wounds " need to be healed as they are blocking my moving forward in this life.

It's good that I am getting in touch with my desires and passion.:p
Now I need to learn to mobilise my " male " energies.
The feminine is a lot stronger in me.

Dreams provide a lot of insights.

18C and sunny today too.

In town

by miramaze @ Monday, 24. Sep, 2007 - 01:05:02

Time for bed now .. I am on my way .. honest ;)

It was sunny and quite warm .
Sat under the " mushroom " at Odenplan to wait for Anna -Stina.
A very drunken man sat next to the couple next to me and started to shout and slobber all over them. The smell of stale alcohol and unwashed person hit my nostrils. I willed him away . I quite like talking to drunks but not when they slobber and shout.

WHen Anna_Stina turned up, we went in search of a café and happen to pass the drunken man who by this time had curled up asleep in a doorway.

We ended up at McDonalds next to the Public Library where you can sit outside and watch kids play around on their skateboards on the square in front.

I had a fish burger and fries and enjoyed every mouthful . Wicked. Not often that I eat junk food.

After an hour or so , the same drunken man appeared , a mug of coffee in his hand, annoying people again before stumbling outside.

Walked back up to St Eriksplan where A-S and I parted ways and I continued to Fridhemsplan to do some grocery shopping before heading home

Later had hummus and tomato on wholewheat rhye crispbread and fresh fruit smoothie. Delish.

Long chat with Ingrid who rambled on a bit ...

Now to bed ..

Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement)

22 September , Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) " day of at - one- ment " as Kali pointed out the other day. Kali did a post on this - see

http://soulsearchingastrology.blog.ca/

I am not Jewish , not really Christian either .. more Neo Pagan and Buddhist .. Sufi too ... a bit of all sorts , I like to pick things up here and there as I go along. I liked this prayer from Yom Kippur

"You know the secrets of the universe,
And the hidden mysteries of all the living.
You probe all the innermost chambers,
and test thoughts and emotions.

"Nothing is hidden from You
And nothing is concealed from Your eyes.

"And so may it be Your will
God of our ancestors,
That You forgive us for all our errors,
And you pardon us for all our iniquities,
And You atone for us
For all our willful sins.

-- from the Viddui confessional prayer
