DSC00014

It's been a while since I last saw her and most welcome she is too :)
We've had some cloudy and rainy nights lately so she has been hidden.
There's a lovely golden halo that surrounds her tonight which doesn't show up on the photo. :(

Nothing much to write home about tonight.
Crappy night for TV programmes.
Going to log off and read .
Enjoy yourselves . people .. night night :)

In memoriam

by miramaze @ Saturday, 22. Sep, 2007 - 15:53:14

Subject: Fw: In Memoriam

Please read the little cartoon carefully, it's powerful. Then read the comments at the end, and please - forward it! We cannot, we must not, ever forget what happened in Europe over 60 years ago, because it could happen again. Anyone, any group, could be the target. It has been said that those who refuse to study history are doomed to repeat it. In this case, those who are attempting to rewrite history are probably planning to repeat it! The hatred is already there, in place, taught to the children from infancy, with promises of glory and honor to those who carry out the plans. Forewarned is forearmed, so please forward.

It is now more than 60 years after the Second World War in Europe ended. This e-mail is being sent as a memorial chain, in memory of the six million Jews, 20 million Russians, 10 million Christians and 1,900 Catholic priests who were murdered, massacred, raped, burned, starved and humiliated with the German and Russia peoples looking the other way!

Now, more than ever, with Iran , among others, claiming the Holocaust to be "a myth," it is imperative to make sure the world never forgets, because the Islamo-Facists want to do it again.

This e-mail is intended to reach 40 million people worldwide!

Join us and be a link in the memorial chain and help us distribute it around the world.

Please send this e-mail to people you know and ask them to continue the memorial chain.

Please don't just delete it. It will only take you a minute to pass this along - Thanks

( P.S. I received this as an email. YOu can also view it here:

Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement)

by miramaze @ Saturday, 22. Sep, 2007 - 12:03:48

22 September , Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) " day of at - one- ment " as Kali pointed out the other day. Kali did a post on this - see

http://soulsearchingastrology.blog.ca/

I am not Jewish , not really Christian either .. more Neo Pagan and Buddhist .. Sufi too ... a bit of all sorts , I like to pick things up here and there as I go along. I liked this prayer from Yom Kippur

"You know the secrets of the universe,
And the hidden mysteries of all the living.
You probe all the innermost chambers,
and test thoughts and emotions.

"Nothing is hidden from You
And nothing is concealed from Your eyes.

"And so may it be Your will
God of our ancestors,
That You forgive us for all our errors,
And you pardon us for all our iniquities,
And You atone for us
For all our willful sins.

Hummus brings people together

by miramaze @ Saturday, 22. Sep, 2007 - 11:52:28

Hummus brings Israelis, Palestinians to the table.
Foodies from both groups say that their love for the savoury spread forces them to meet.

Abu Gosh, Israel - "For me, hummus is a cultural place where Israelis and Arab cultures communicate and cooperate," says Shooky Galili, the editor of a Hebrew weblog entitled "Hummus for the masses." Indeed, in a place where Arabs and Jews are mostly segregated from one another, the dip is one of the few things that brings them together.

My Hummus recipe for Mrs F and others

by miramaze @ Saturday, 22. Sep, 2007 - 11:47:16

Here's my version of hummus

Chick peas soaked overnight 225g
water
garlic 2 or more cloves
extra virgin olive oil ( about 3tbs, 45ml
juice of 1-2 lemons
salt ( I use herb salt ) and pepper to taste

paprika to garnish

Ok .. when I first made this, I used to add fresh garlic at the end , but that made the hummus very strong. Now I add the garlic to the chick peas while they are boiling.Smart ;)

Method

Put chick peas that have soaked over night in a saucepan and just cover with water

Add garlic cloves roughly cut up

Bring to boil , cover and simmer for 30- 45 minutes adding extra water if necesary .

Allow to cool in the water

Put HALF the chick peas ( including garlic ) in the food processor
add oil and lemon juice and then add remaining chick peas until you get the right consistency and all the ingredients are incorporated. taste as you go along.

Season with salt and pepper, adding extra lemon juice if you wish

Tranfer to serving dish , sprinkle with paprika ( sprig of parsley if you wish - I don't like the stuff but it does look pretty )

Serve with wholemealbread, toasted pitta bread , crudites , iceberg lettuce, cucumber, carrot etc etc

Enjoy ! :)

P.S.

I think you can vary the taste by adding all sorts of eastern spices . Some recipes also add beans and sesame seeds and tahini and natural yoghurt but I like this simple version best. Experiment and have fun !
