Dinner for one

by miramaze @ Monday, 31. Dec, 2007 - 21:56:25

Snoozing after a several helpings of yummy creamy gratinéd potatoes, salad and several glasses of red wine , I woke up to see Jamie Olver finish cooking and while checking channels stumbled upon this New Year's Eve film that is quite a tradition here in Sweden since 1976, I believe. Swedes are funny like that. For many , Christmas Eve is not complete without Walt Disneys Donald Duck cartoons ( Kalle Anka ) and New Year's Eve is official after this cult film. For years they kept telling me it was the funniest thing ever and I was bitterly disappointed when I first saw it 20 years ago. This is the second time for me , and .....no.. still doesn't do it for me :( See what you think. Do you have Swedish sense of humour ?

Global prayers for peace

by miramaze @ Monday, 31. Dec, 2007 - 19:10:06

Thank you moonwoman http://wisewomaninwoods.blog.ca/ I know it's past noon GMT , but I don't think time matters much. The world needs our light and prayers at all hours.

Thank you all with love, mira
x

Join the global prayers for peace. Stop wherever you are at midnight Greenwich Mean Time [GMT] and add your prayer, or say the World Healing Meditation linked below. Our voices will resonate around the world! We are raising global consciousness when we do this simultaneously.

Before peace, there is often chaos until the people have had enough. They will seek out what the rest of us know… peace in our hearts, peace in our homes, peace in our towns and peace in our countries enables all of us to live a life of optimism and love. It is only when we increase our understanding of one another that we can reach for serenity and focus on higher spiritual values.

Nearly 2008

by miramaze @ Monday, 31. Dec, 2007 - 01:45:01

The countdown begins; only 24 hours left of 2007 .
What a year it has been.

I got off on the wrong foot as I remember , spraining my ankle tripping over a the phone in my bedroom. It didn't 'alf hurt too. :)) The hospital became a familiar place as the year progressed.

Still, it did not deter me from travelling; Antwerp in February. Manchester, Bradford and Silverdale in March and Paris in August.Fnatstic memories.

For 2008, I wish for good health ,satisfying meaningful work, a lover and best friend to turn up at my door ( It has happened before lol ) and continued leisurely, stress free lifestyle. I am so grateful for my home, angels, friends and all my blessings.

Looks like I will be here with me myself and I tomorrow ,tgether with gratinéd potatoes, mixed salad and vino.YUM .I usually get a fantastic fireworks display from my living room window. Fantastic. What will you all be doing ?

A friend called me " Naughty Nun " today , which describes my lifestyle quite well. Solitude , reflection, simplicity with spells of naughtiness and " sinful" indulgence.

This same friene is separating from her partner and soul mate of nearly 10 years.:( t's not that they have fallen out of love , they can't seem to live together. Tragic. Moving apart is preferable to stagnation.

Actually , I don't think it should be termed " separation " in their case - more like " change " r " Transformation" . Seperate homes. That's what I would like too.

I'm so looking forward to meeting Bloggity friends in May; face to face and not only in spirit.

I am also going to learn to know my friend Mac and attend Psychoynthesis Summer School, in Cambridge in August.

Peace , Love and laughter to us all !

The wee small hours

by miramaze @ Sunday, 30. Dec, 2007 - 04:13:09

I love the wee small hours of the night. There is such peace and stillness while most people are asleep.

The wind is howling outside and I am so grateful for my cosy home.

Something strange is going on in an online community that I belong to where we've been discussing the meaning of life -- HA -- brings out the weirdness in people I suppose. One person there is stirring the pot. I don't really understand what they are saying or why I am participating but it reminds me of family arguments: all of us sitting round the kitchen table ventilating and arguing not really making any sense but staying there through thick and thin as if glued to our seats.

It's also a bit like being glued to the TV or computer .. a trance like state.. part of you knows that you'd be better off in bed asleeep , while another part says .." keep on going .. you never know what might happen next "

I am going to bed now .....peace zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzin all dimensions.

Topsy turvy days and nights

by miramaze @ Saturday, 29. Dec, 2007 - 15:39:56

This is what happens when I am left to my own devices to follow my natural biological soul rhythms.

It was 4 am when I finally crawled into bed and 1 am when I awoke. It is now 2;30 pm and I'm here in logland commenting on posts with my mind wandering from one topic to another.I've not yet had breakfast. There's only one egg left which means that I will be forced to venture out in the stormy wet and windy night and improvise breakfast with one egg only.

Listening to cat Stevens ... " you can make it all true ... it's easy .. ahha ... you don't need me to say .. there's a million things to be...

Well, if you want to sing out, sing out
And if you want to be free, be free
cause theres a million things to be
You know that there are

And if you want to live high, live high
And if you want to live low, live low
cause theres a million ways to go
You know that there are

Chorus:
You can do what you want
The opportunitys on
And if you can find a new way
You can do it today
You can make it all true
And you can make it undo
You see ah ah ah
Its easy ah ah ah
You only need to know

Well if you want to say yes, say yes
And if you want to say no, say no
cause theres a million ways to go
You know that there are

And if you want to be me, be me
And if you want to be you, be you
cause theres a million things to do
You know that there are

Chorus

Well, if you want to sing out, sing out
And if you want to be free, be free
cause theres a million things to be
You know that there are
You know that there are
You know that there are
You know that there are
You know that there are

How appropriate ! Thank you Cat Stevens

Mac has moved in

by miramaze @ Saturday, 29. Dec, 2007 - 00:54:51

Mac has moved in :) I even allowed him to share my bed and he was very good, I must say. I'm not going to make a habit of it , but just until he settles in.He's a delight, he really is.

The Prof gave him to me yesterday when I was there for dinner. He's got a new one and said " It's been a while since I gave you a computer , so please accept Mac (lap top ) as a late Christmas present." BLESS his cotton socks. Kisses and hugs. He's installed a new battery and left thousands of tunes in the music library. There's such a lot to learn now. I've not connected him up to the internet yet- there's a gadget that needs installing.. not sure what that is called .. a router , maybe ??

Dinner chez Prof and JOhanna was a delight.
We had an amazingly simple and tasty starter - finely sliced mangetout and shavings of parmesan http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2003/2143782997_b30b34aa6b_m.jpg

Then I got my favourite: Prof's veggie burgers with mango chutney, mushroom and sherry sauce with a touchod mango chutney and creamed potatoes. The potatoes were sooooo smooth too .. no lumps like in mine  all of it extremely yummy and washed down with verdiccio :)

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2043/2145061734_7b432a27f7.jpg

Dessert was icecream with homemade chocolate sauce :) Mac and I rolled home after midnight.

I'm still taking it easy ...................... how about you ?

New morning

by miramaze @ Thursday, 27. Dec, 2007 - 13:38:02

Bob Dylan's " New Morning " arrived today . A Christmas present from middle sister, who is so very good at sending cards and remembering birthdays, She insists on sending presents " Well it's my thing " says she , bless her. even though the rest of us have long since stopped bothering . I've not listened to Bob Dylan for ages. Listening to him now I'm transported back in time to all night parties of the 60's, drinking and listening to music while sitting on the floor , one LP after the other or the same one over and over again. The sound made by the scratches in the record became part of the music experience. Three Angels is the track playing right now - a new one for me :)

Three angels up above the street,
Each one playing a horn,
Dressed in green robes with wings that stick out,
They've been there since Christmas morn.
The wildest cat from Montana passes by in a flash,
Then a lady in a bright orange dress,
One U-Haul trailer, a truck with no wheels,
The Tenth Avenue bus going west.
The dogs and pigeons fly up and they flutter around,
A man with a badge skips by,
Three fellas crawlin' on their way back to work,
Nobody stops to ask why.
The bakery truck stops outside of that fence
Where the angels stand high on their poles,
The driver peeks out, trying to find one face
In this concrete world full of souls.
The angels play on their horns all day,
The whole earth in progression seems to pass by.
But does anyone hear the music they play,
Does anyone even try?

Creme caramel

by miramaze @ Sunday, 23. Dec, 2007 - 03:26:10

When making creme caramel .. why does the caramel part stick to the bottom of the ramekin ? Otherwise they turned out perfectly :) I tried one and it was smooth , perfect consistancy.A delight. What to do about the caramel though ? It's hard and brittle like toffee when it is supposed to be runny.

Went into town , bought lilies and roses in the market
Came home , dumped flowers in water, did grocery shopping and bought two pressies.
Have dusted and cleaned a bit as well.
Wrapped pressies, cleaned silverware and my Indian brass candelabra as well as the angel chimes which I had to take apart to clean and managed to assemble. TRicky it was.

:zz: off to bed now .. peace zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz :zz:

Last minute food shopping in the rain

by miramaze @ Saturday, 22. Dec, 2007 - 14:22:36

So.. I've breakfasted, commented on blogs, emailed and checked emails, facebooked spoken to Mikael to finalise plans for Christmas Eve, picked up bits and pieces around the flat in effort to tidy up and it 's around 1pm .

Take empty bottles to bottle bank
Recycle paper

On the way back pop into Willy's to buy sugar, ( used the last to make chocolate truffle cake last night ) milk for creme caramel ( milk I'd bought was sour BEfore the 'best by' date grrrr came out all lumpy ) Potatoes and r ed onions and candles. All heavy stuff to carry.

Then ,, after lunch go into town to buy flowers at Hötorget market. Lilies and roses inread of a Christmas tree. Maybe get hold of some fresh rocket and other lettuce for salad.Trouble with salad is that is does not keep very well . I like it to be crisp and fresh . Not fond of limpness :(

So that's it for no.Merry wheeeeeze ;wave: have a good Saturday

Four day of sunshine

by miramaze @ Friday, 21. Dec, 2007 - 14:50:43

Four days of sunshine in a row . blue skies , icy cold and silvery moon by night.
Met my soul sisters last night to rise up above the darkness and celebrate each other and the Solstice .We exchanged gifts, enjoyed good food, drink and laughter while Yule logs burned in the fire. I'll be having a symbolic yule log and red candles in my sealed fire place . It will glow there for 12 days bringing good health and protection for me and my home throughout the coming year

Time whizzed by. I missed my last train home but caught another one which usually means a long walk but last night, t he goddess provided a bus from the station. Excellent timing.Blessed be.

Today I'm doing laundry and then will pop by Lena's to pick up " the SUN " Tarot card which somehow got left behind. A message for the hostess ? The cards have a life of their own :) Last time the whole deck fell out of my bag as I was leaving.

Midday mumbles

by miramaze @ Thursday, 20. Dec, 2007 - 13:46:41

Delighted that this is the third day of sunshine in a row .
A bright and happy Yule Tide with the moon waxing too.
It's freezing cold outside.
Water on the balcony has frozen.

I'm feeling content. Happy almost as I sit here and mumble for a while escaping for a while the mental " to do " list. I so prefer being.

Something always happens to me at this time of the year.
It's a sort of paralysis- a reaction to the stress and Christmas rush that is going on outside my safe and cosy little world of simply being.
I opt out of doing and do very little but part of me still gets caught up in the insanity of it all. My art of being has a few glitches that need to be ironed out .

I know that always have enoug time if I use it wisely.
My dilemma is basically a problem of priorities.
I do things that I enjoy doing while the things I " should" be doing get left.
There is a conflict there because I do not believe in " should do" .
Setting priorities might be a good idea: in other words making a list of all the things I want to do and then do them in order of priority.

" Don't serve time, make time serve you."

So now I want to run a few errands while it is still bright and sunny outside.

Have a good day ! :)

Shopping

by miramaze @ Wednesday, 19. Dec, 2007 - 22:46:15

Several hours of traipsing through crowded shops and trying things on, which I hate, I finally found what I wanted. I hardly ever go shopping for clothes so I really don't know what I'm doing.

Anyway , it's 3/4 length black and warm with a hood. The sort of coat you'd wear on a blustery freezing cold day to walk the dog or a walk through the woods. I don't have a dog , so I don't have a habit of being out in all weather. Maybe that will change now :)) tee hee

That thingy that's going around , nicked from Notbob

by miramaze @ Wednesday, 19. Dec, 2007 - 01:49:11

I own some beautiful water colour and oil based crayons. Fantastic , they are ! I'm not fond of wax crayons , they are not bold enough and a bit annoying.

I saw my grandad when he was dead in his coffin. I was 14 and tricked into it, so it was a very scary experience. I would not mind seing a dead body now.

I Wear a seatbelt most of the time but I don't like them.

I Shower in the morning and at night, but prefer a leisurely soak in a hot bath.
I don't sing.

I don't own diamonds. Used to have cubic zirconian ear rings once , but lost one down the sink.

The last thing I purchased was 3 bottles of Nottage Hill, One craimant de Bourgogne and Bag in Box Italian Red. I'm stocking up for the festive season.

What makes me feel warm and safe is being tucked up in bed.
I remember most of my dreams.
Went to ordinary school. In the USA "public" means state school while U.K , public means private , right ?;)

I will not donate my organs, I wouldn't inflict second hand organs on anyone.

I vent my anger by slamming doors and swearing and crying at the same time. Wish I could do without the crying.

Heritage? Although I was born in England , I don't have any English blood . My parents are Latvian, and one of my grandparebts was Russian,There is some Swedish and Polish in my family tree too.

Don't wear a watch.

Never went to camp. wouldn't want to. Horrible idea .

On 11 September 2001 I was right here , at my computer. Heard the news on T.V.

I have been to a gay bar , yes.

My ringtone is Mozart's Queen of the Night

I don't drink milk. Yuk ! Disgusting stuff. Only to be used in cooking and for Creme Caramel.

touchy-feely ? I like to touch and to feel .. Yes ! lol what a question. Being touchy feelied too is fun lol

HERE ARE THE QUESTIONS

1. Do you own a box of crayons?
2. Have you ever seen a dead body?
3. Do you always wear a seatbelt?

4. When do you shower most often?

5. What songs do you sing in the shower?

6. Do you own any diamonds?

7. What was the last thing you purchased?

8. What makes you feel warm and safe?

9. How often do you remember your dreams?

10. Did you go to public or private school?

11. Will you donate your organs after you pass?
12. How do you vent your anger?

13. What is your heritage?

14. What kind of watch do you wear?

15. Did you ever go to camp?
16. Where were you on September 11, 2001?

17. Have you ever been to a gay bar?

18. What is your ringtone?

19. What kind of milk do you drink?

20. Are you touchy-feely?

Wher's it gone ?
Feeling sleepy now , so this will be a short post.
Mum woke me up this morning , all chirpy and happy, She wanted saffron and would I send her some . Yes of course saith I, knowing that this entails card, envelope , stamp and a bit of writing. I rarely write letters these days as they involve so many steps. Usually I end up carrying the letter around in my bag forgetting to post it until it looks all grubby and frazzled. Sometimes I post it , sometimes I don't., but today .. I did ALL the steps and letter is on its way to mum as we speak.

Next letter will be to a certain lovely and talented lady who has knitted me a pair of socks.. a work of art and a labour of love. NOw all I have to do is buy some euros and send them away ! That will be tomorrow or the day after when I go into town.

Here's a bit about Geothermal energy´for moonwoman and anyone else interested :

" Geothermal energy uses the elevated temperatures in the earth’s interior to generate heat and electricity, and this heat is available continuously. It has excellent potential base load properties and is globally one of the most widely used sustainable energy sources, mainly in countries in which surface volcanic action is present. Geothermal energy has huge potential. But very costly deep drilling is needed to achieve even moderate water temperatures in central and northern Europe (except Iceland). As a result, the utilization of geothermal energy has so far been of minor interest in the countries in which Vattenfall has operations. However, the geological conditions in Poland and Germany are much better than in Scandinavia. The procedure for extracting heat consists of establishing a flow of water between at least two boreholes drilled down to a depth of 3-5 km and interconnected by natural or created fissures. Since there are no dependable methods for assessing the nature of the rock at great depths, there is considerable risk of poor results, with low energy output from the boreholes, or none at all. The low water temperatures achieved result in low efficiency of the conversion of heat to electricity which, combined with the high costs and risks, have so far limited the use of geothermal energy in the Vattenfall market area. Nevertheless, Vattenfall is actively following developments, and operates a geothermal CHP (Combined Heat and Power) plant in Neustadt-Glewe in Germany, which generates 210 kW of electricity and 6500 kW of heat. The second geothermal power plant with an electric power output of 750 kW is under construction in Gross Schönebeck, north of Berlin....."

Inspired by ajnspencer

by miramaze @ Tuesday, 18. Dec, 2007 - 00:27:01

So, later that day , inspired by ajnspencer of Blogland , I set up a flickr account for my piccies :) It took a while and I'm still feeling the lay of the land there. " miramaze07" is my name there. I uploaded the photos I took today from my trip to Täby - a town on the other side of town involving two tube rides and one ride on the little train known as Roslagsbanan :)

It was a beautifully sunny day, I had my camera with me , but forgot about it until I was on my way home and I caught a glipse of the moon near the station. Of couse I had to try and capture the góddess, though she is very elusive to my little camera. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2252/2118216103_5aeaa9c511_m.jpg

See that little speck in the sky ? ;)

Once home , I started to play around with some Christmas tree lights that I found to illuminate my non- usuable fireplace. What d'ya reckon ? Red baubles , glass snowballs and shiny things ?

All's well in Miraland

by miramaze @ Monday, 17. Dec, 2007 - 02:44:28

Well I tried. I got all dressed up ,glad rags on, makeup , figure out times of trains and consulted map for directions. I even got as far as the tube station and then changed my mind. Not going to feel guilty either.

Can't be bothered going when I don't feel like being sociable. Granted , I might've changed my mind once there ,, might not get invited ever again .... I would probably have got lost on the way there anyway.

Instead , plonked my feet in the hot and fragrant foot spa and turned it on to vibrate while watching Richard Gere in ballroom dancing film.:)

Later , decapitated the big salmon I bought yesterday and made stock from the head. Grilled a piece and ate with stirfried brocolli and garlic and sprinkled with soya and sesame. Reserved the middle bit of the salmon to make "gravad lax " that 's salmon marinated with dill and chives. It will later be frozen for 3 days at least to get rid of any extra critters ;)

Got out some Christmas lights and toyed with the idea of brightening up my open fireplace that is sealed and can't be used.

My friend Darryl in New Zealand sent pics of his two adopted cats.
