Maarja and I went to see the Toulouse Lautrec exhibition at the National Museum. http://www.nationalmuseum.se/Default____2705.aspx
Five hours of walking around and viewing art with a break for coffee and a sandwich in the Atrium, the museum's very fine restaurant restaurant . So much to see and take in. Many fine works from all over the world gathered together for this exhibition.
Toulouse Lautrec Advertising. Liquor. Prostitution.
“ Many of the ingredients in the short life of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec have the power to fascinate and shock. Today, he is almost as famous for his tragic fate as for his art.
More than any other artist, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec has shaped our image of fin de siècle Paris. From taverns, theatres and dance halls, he portrayed the city’s entertainment scene. He is associated in particular with the Moulin Rouge. For some years around 1890, he spent almost every evening there, busily capturing people and events on his sketch pad."
The National Museum is a grand building, magnificent wide broad marble strairs . A truly Majestic place. The Toulouse Lautrec was right on the top floor in several rooms. Posters, oil paintings , etchings and sketches many of them famous images from postcards , tea- towels and mugs. I use to have the Moulin Rouge tea towel, bought in Paris in 1971 . For a long time it hung on my wall and then got used as a tea towel until I finally threw it away , faded and in shreds.
Cranach

Stopped for to see the Cranach paintings that are part of the permanent collection and then went down to the museum shop for a little browse around. In keeping with the spirit of erotic came out with a little book " SEX PORTRAITS OF PASSION " , for the coffee table at home.
