This "Goddess" leaves me just as cold as all the other gods do. One of my main problems with gods and goddesses is that they are all too often a substitute for self-reliance. People need to try, try and try again and keep trying, because no magical hand is going to waft down from the clouds and do it for them.

I suppose Gods and Goddesses are what you make them and totally agree with you about personal responsibility.
For me , Gods and Godesses are like mirrors - they mirror us, both our strengths and weaknesses; our light and are shadows.
CO-creation is what I believe in. " Trust in God and tie up your camel " sort of idea.
Sometimes , in fact almost daily , I see evidence of that " magical hand " or miracle. Sometimes very obvious , sometimes subtle, but there.
It's all a question of how you choose to see things.

How you choose to interpret what you see is crucial. If you choose to interpret a coincidence or stroke of luck as the "magical hand", that's an individual decision. But would you consider tripping up or losing something to be the "magical hand" too?

Yes, I would . It could be a blessing in disguise
You trip and break your leg which means you can't go to war and you stay alive. Life is a series of consequences to actions ... who's to say if the consequences are " good " or " bad ".
Is the bottle half full or half empty ?
I choose optimism because it is healthier
, for me , anyway

Or you trip and break your leg, it gets gangrene and has to be amputated, but the gangrene has spread too quickly and it kills you. That's the trouble with the future: it can't be predicted.
My standard answer: the bottle is half full of emptiness.
I choose realism because it's the most honest choice.

I choose realism too Tom. It's when I argue with reality and what is that I tend to suffer.
Future can't be predicted but you can shape your future by the thoughts you think here and now. If you examine and question the thoughts that make you feel sad , angry or despairing you can also turn them around if they prove not to be true.
Honesty, yes , but how do you know you are being honest ?
How do you know what is real ?

I'm not sure what you mean by "argue with reality".
I would say that planning for the future is essential, deciding what you want and then trying to achieve it. After all, "only dead fish flow with the stream" as my Swedish colleague used to say. Whether the planning works or not is something that time will tell.
Honesty is easy enough to see in yourself - I think most people know if they are lying to themselves.
Knowing what is "real" is more difficult. The pain in my back is real to me, but not to anyone else. That my dog loves me seems real, but is it? I think all we can say is that if it feels real, then it might be. If you can make predictions based on it, then it is more likely to be so:
If I lie down, I expect my dog to come and lick my face, not bite me.

Example of " argue with reality "
If I think " Jack should understand me " and Jack doesn't understand me , then I am arguing with reality when I think that thought. That thought " Jack should understand me " causes me to feel angry , upset, frustrated , etc All those feelings are evoked in me because of that thought.
If it is raining and I want it to be sunny , I am also arguing with " what is " instead of accepting " what is " in which case I don't necessarily have to like the rain , but I can accept it, probably because I know it will pass.
If you think your dog loves you and it makes you feel happy, there is no reason to drop that thought, is there ? But , if a thought is making you unhappy, angry or resentful, you can investigate to see if what you think is really true. If it isn't , then you can change it.
Planning for the future we all do to some extent. I plan some things, but tend to make choices in the moment. Most of the time , I don't know where I am going until I get there.
Some things I plan, like a 4 year course of study , but I can also say " This year , or this day , I will simply go with the flow , making conscious choices and decisions as I go along " and that is sort of loose planning
I'm sorry about the pain in your back, btw .

Ah, I'm with you. What you mean by "arguing with reality", I would call wishful thinking: it is like this but I wish it were not. Cool, we all do that.
Choosing to follow up the good feelings and not the bad feelings, as you suggest, is pretty much the definition of an optimist. But my view is that better choices are made with more accurate information and so I tend to follow up both the good paths and the bad ones. e.g. if I stopped feeding Dan, would he get fed elsewhere and keep coming back to me because he likes me, or would he just run off?

The only way to find the answer to your question would be to try it and see. Do you think Dan stays with you only because you feed him ?
It is possible that if you stopped feeding him , he might find food for himself and bring you some back too ? "

Very inspiring, got Hera.
For me the goddess is that small voice of common sense and reason (or conscience) that always points you in the right direction in a time of crisis. She is always there for you when you need her. She has not let me down yet.

Yes.
For me she is multi faceted and multi- dimensional and is always on call to help. I can feel her presence when she has something special to say or in response to a question.

You're welcome
Have you seen Isha Lerner's site too www.ishalerner.com ? Free readings there too . I like her triple goddess cards and inner child cards. All wonderful oracles.
