Mira mumbles

by miramaze @ Tuesday, 15. Jul, 2008 - 22:06:52

Earlier on today I was thinking about space - emptyness. Everything we know is in relationship with something or other. Everything is either form ( matter ) or no form. Things that appear solid are not when you get up close and there is lots and lots of space inbetween the other bits.

Light travelling at 300,000 km per second takes just over a second to travel between the earth and the moon. Light from our nearest star Proxima Centauiri travels for 4.5 years before it reaches the earth. Light from the Andromeda Galaxi takes 2.4 million years to reach us.

Our bodies are like that when you loo closely at them , under the microscope , magnified time and time again. Not solid at all, Mainly space.

This kind of thinking kind of makes my brain hurt. I enjoy it for a while and then I have to do something else. Today I got out some fabric , a dress patteren and my sewing machine. I've been snipping away , humming and ahhhhing and now a top is cut out and ready to be stitched together. It is anyones guess what it will turn out like .. we shall have to wait and see.

Had a couple of glasses of Kir with my evening meal and now I am thinking about bed.

Mrs Pidge has settled down for the night too. Amazing how she vacates the balcony for me during the day and returns there to sleep :)

Hope everyone is well and happy

xx

You should do some knitting with big holes in it to aid your thinking about the spaces in-between :-)

You are right.

I have noticed today that there is a lot of space between my ears where by brain ought to be.

I have noticed a lot of blankness when I come to having a conversation with somebody... however, this could be because they are blogging while indulging in a telephone conversation (for example).

Perhaps I should take up knitting. I did when I was six weeks' pregnant and the doctor said I needed to relax as I was abou to lose the baby. It worked.

Knitting is good :) When the Prof had mumps over Christmas one year many moons ago , I bought one of those round needles and just knit round and round. It made the worlds longest scarf. It was fun. :)

I have no concept of space.
Serves me right for studying quantum mechanics?
Were you taught that atoms were like the solar system when you were at school?

I don't remember :( possibly :)

Space is unimaginable .. it simply exists as a formless mass. It's only when form comes into space that we get an idea of the enormity ;)

Space or non-space sure has baffled philosophers for millenia!
