I was got so excited when I hear about the moon and mars event , 27 August 2008.
It seems that this spectacular event has been around a few times before

I was so disappoimnted ... but never mind - a night looking at the stars can't be wrong 
There might even be a meteor shower. They are common in August , aren't they ?

Not a hoax exactly more an exaggeration I think. I believe that there will be a good and clear view of Mars all month, but not as it has been reported in some articles. I put up a ref to the NASA site a few days back if you want a reliable account of what to expect.

i realy want to see it but i cant even find the moon

The moon is waning here , so there's very little of it left to see. I don't know what it would be like in South Africa. Today it is raining and cloudy so we can't see a thing.
